Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisations Community Development Organisation (The Bridge)
Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisation, a community and voluntary organisation also known as CBO was established in 1985 as an umbrella of Bangladeshi organisations in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell to provide a collective voice for communicating community need and providing representation.
Legal Status: CBO obtained its charity status in April 1993 under the Charity Registration NO: 1020384.
Key Objectives: are to promote the benefits of inhabitants of Sandwell, in particular individuals of Bangladeshi descent, advance education, relieve need, hardship, and distress, and provide facilities in the interest of social welfare, for recreational and leisure-time occupation with the object of improving the quality of life for residents.
Implements of Objectives: Development of capacity and skills of the Bangladeshi community in the borough of Sandwell in such a way that they are better able to identify and help meet their needs and participate more fully in society. Assist in supporting and initiating community development initiatives aimed at eradicating deprivation and disadvantages. Work towards elimination of racial discrimination, promote equality of opportunities, and develop a cohesive society in Sandwell. Liase with other similar voluntary and statuary sectors agencies jointly or in partnership, as a bridge in between to achieve its objectives.
Confederation of Bangladeshi Organisation is an independent registered charity. It is the responsibility of the Management Committee through its quarterly Management Meetings to ensure effective delivery of the aims and objectives of all its programmes. CBO is also committed to local community involvement in all areas of strategic and operational decision making process of programme.
